I just finished reading this article and I couldn’t help but notice that 24% of people surveyed said they would not want to go to a sporting event for their first date.

If you aren’t aware at this point, Steve took me to a Sabres game for our first date. We watched them suffer an embarrassing 3-0 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes. It was the best game I’ve ever been to where I didn’t get to see a single goal.
If the person you are meeting for the first time tells you that they are a hockey fan, the best place to take them is a Sabres game. This way you can make sure that they really know their stuff. The one thing that I really can’t stand is someone who says they are a Sabres fan, but the only players they can name are Ryan Miller and Tyler Myers.
I know that when you go on a first date you should act like a lady and make a good impression, but eventually the illusion will be over, so why create an illusion in the first place? I think going to a Sabres game, eating food off your lap, drinking giant beers and screaming until you can’t talk lets a man know exactly what to expect. This way you aren’t wasting his time, or yours.
Perhaps the Sabres should start a dating website to help other Sabres fan meet and fall in love. Maybe give them some discount tickets, and let them meet some eligible singles who love the Sabres as much as they do. You are probably a whole hell of a lot more likely to meet your soul mate at a Sabres game, than you are on Chippewa.
